Rock climbing (17.10 and 24.10)

Last Wednesday and the one before Celine, Jessica and I did rock climbing in Port Chalmers.
On the 17th October it was a practice for the assessment the week after that.
This time we did rock climbing with our whole Outdoor Education class. As a warm- up we did bouldering and then started climbing on an easy wall.
Then we tried the harder walls, because we wanted to achieve a Merit grade next week.

It worked very well and we had a lot of fun.
At the end we climbed the easiest wall just for fun and Celine and I timed us. It took us 20 to 30sec  :)

On the 24th October it was the assessment! We were really nervous and excited, although it didn't count for us.
Celine, Jessica and I climbed a Merit climb first and then Celine and I climbed a high Merit wall!
We were proud of what we succeeded, but it's a bit sad that we only have one Outdoor Ed trip left.

Mountainbiking/ Climbing at school (05.09.12)

This Wednesday we were divided into two groups because the kiwi-girls had to practice how to teach other students for their exams. One Group of us had indoor climbing for the first half and the other group had mountain biking on the school ground. After one hour the two groups swapped.
At the climbing the girls explained us how to save each other, we were also taught how to climb on the wall and to feel confident climbing. They told us that our arms were only a additional support to our feet.
At the mountain biking we were shown how the bikes work and trained to be more confident on them. The girls created a track, which involved circling and biking up and down a little hill.
All in all it was great fun and the kiwis taught us very good.

Mountainbiking Ross Creek (29.08.12)

On the 29.08.12 we went to Ross Creek forest to go mountain  biking. Nick, the instructor, helped us to get ready with the bikes. After we checked the bikes, we started.... We drove up the hill and down again. During our ride we had to pass dangerous corners, a small river and muddy grounds. There were also other barriers. It was very exhausting, but it was a lot of fun! The weather was good and sometimes the sun came out. In the forest was also a ramp. The ramp was very small and looked dangerous, but after we gave it a try it was not as bad as it looked. it was actually quiet enjoyable.
We had a good time!

Getting ready to go!

Port Chalmers Climbing (22.08.12)

On this wednesday we German girls went climbing at Port Chalmers. Mrs Maine drove with us to the port. There a man gave us all the gear to climb on the rocks and he showed us how to feel confident on the rocks. He gave us the special climbing shoes, which really did hurt. After the introduction we were able to start climbing. There were three courses. One easy one and from there it got harder and higher.
It was really fun and we drove exhausted back to school.

Orokonui (01.08.12)

Our trip to Orokonui

Today we drove with the Van to Orokonui. This is an enclosed area without any mammals in it, so that there is still a piece of land which is as it was before the arrival of humans. A guide called Sofie showed us around and we wandered through wonderful forests and saw lots of little ponds. Due to quite bad weather we couldn't see very many birds, but we were still able to watch lots of little birds drinking. Sofie told us lots of interesting facts about New Zealand's nature and the threats of it. After one hour we came back to the starting point and drove back to St. Hildas.

Outdoor education
25.07.2012

This wednesday we took the chance and went to Mount Cargo. We drove with a bus up the hill and started our journey from the highest point. There was a platform, which showed us the direction of important sights. After we had enjoyed the beautiful view we started our way downhill.
The track was really exiting, but it got even more exciting when we decided to climb up a quiet similar rock than the pipe rocks. After our little adventure we climbed the same mountain down and continued our track, which led us through the New Zealand forest. The forest is even in the winter season green and full of life. Almost at the bottom of the mountain we had a little break and shared our snacks. We were all quiet exhausted when we arrived at the carpark.

Our first trip: Sandymount (18.07.2012)

Last wednesday we went on our first trip with our outdoor education class to Sandymount in Dunedin. We drove together with Ms Fletcher and Ms Main to the Peninsula. When we got out off the car, we had a very nice view over the most photographed scenery of New Zealand. Then our adventure began. First we climbed up Sandymount. On top we took a group photo and had a little break. From that point we went down through sand dunes and mud and around the hill. We stopped at a viewpoint, from which we could see the amazing Lovers Leap. Next we hiked through a beautiful scenery and we could see lots of sheep.
The whole trip took about an hour and a half and it was about 3.1kilometres long.
At the end we were exhausted, but it was a great afternoon.
